Trinity Column
The impressive Trinity Column is 20 metres high and made of white marble. It is a typical symbol of the baroque period and was erected in gratitude by those who had survived a variety of disasters. The column should also protect the citizens from war, fire and plague.
It is located in the centre of the main square (Hauptplatz), which, with an area of roughly 13,200 m2, has been one of the largest urban squares in Europe since the 13th century. Thanks to the main square’s function as a market place, Linz soon experienced an economic boom.
