Nibelungenbrücke - The old city center lies on the southern, right bank, connected across the Donau to the center of its suburb Urfahr by the Nibelungenbrücke, a bridge commissioned by Hitler in 1940. The bridge is the first sight of Linz for downstream travelers; it remains the primary route for trams and local traffic. Otherwise, Hitler’s grandiose plans for rebuilding the waterfront along both banks were never realized, the final model prepared by architect Hermann Giesler was presented to Hitler in February 1945, just three months before the end of World War II and Hitler’s death.
