Eremitageslottet - The Hermitage Hunting Lodge is located in Dyrehaven north of Copenhagen.
On a top of a hill in The Deer Park, you will find the Kings’ Hunting Lodge overlooking Øresund, treetops and a far-reaching hunting landscape.
The historical hunting dinners at The Hermitage Hunting Lodge was unique for kings who could excite friends' palates without the disturbing presence of servants.
With a single signal, a fully set table elevated from beneath the floor with wine, meat and delicatessen. The castle had a built-in lift table.
In this way, the kings and guests could enjoy a dinner in solitude - and talk confidentially without prying eyes and ears.
The elevator table is now gone. It was discarded in 1759, but the rest of the castle stands as it did in the 1730s, when Christian VI lodged at the hunting lodge.
There was no expense spared when Christian VI decorated The Hermitage Hunting Lodge with gold, silver, silk wallpaper and marble.
The King’s hunting landscape in The Deer Park surrounding the Hermitage Lodge, came in 2015 on UNESCO's list of World Heritage inalienable.
The hunting lodge was built by architect Lauritz de Thurah in Baroque style from 1734 to 1736 for King Christian VI of Denmark in order to host royal banquets during royal hunts in Dyrehaven.
