The artwork Eternal Sundown will from sunset to dawn, maintain an abstract sunset color spectrum, spread joy and remind us that the much-needed sunlight soon returns. The work, consisting of 142 colored fluorescent lamps and a laser, creates an urban and impressionistic natural expression at the same time. The installation is mounted on the part of The Wave, which is located in front of Copenhagen Marriott Hotel. Eternal Sundown is made by lighting designer Mads Vegas, who has been working professionally with light for the last 20 years. Mainly for theater, but also designs for music, arts and social events, restaurants, and light installations in public spaces. As a light artist, Mads Vegas has during the last 10 years, made the large winter light installation in Ørestad Nord and is currently working on a light installation at Renzo Pianos Auditorium Concerthall in Rome, opening February 2019, which is a result of the cooperation between Copenhagen Light Festival and the Danish Embassy in Rome.
Mads Vegas created Eternal Sundown for Copenhagen Light Festival 2018 and has re-developed it so it gets a new expression. The installation is not a repetition of last year’s Eternal Sundown, but will be recognizable as a follow-up to last year’s work. The work is created with materials recycled from COP15 and Mads Vegas’ earlier flourescent tubes and other lamps and fits well in the sustainability theme of Copenhagen Light Festival 2019.
