The current American Embassy building opened on May 27, 1954. It was planned and built under the direction of Ides van der Gracht, Regional Director for the Foreign Buildings Office of the U.S. State Department.
The designs were done by two American architects: Ralph Rapson, of the School of Architecture, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and John Van der Muelen, School of Fine & Applied Arts, Department of Architecture, University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.
The Danish supervising architects for the building were Jørgen Juul Møller and Erik Herlow.
