Spanteloftet
From 1692 - 1926, the Royal Danish Navy built it's vessels on the berths on Nyholm. The first one was the warship Dannebroge; the last one was the submarine Dryaden.
The beautiful, timber-framed red building from 1743 is known as "Spanteloftet" ( the Timber Attic ) and was used for Shipbuilding. This was were the models for the ships frames were produced. Next the frames were manufactured in the building adjoining the masting crane. "The big Bollard" belonged to Berth 1. The gate was used for tying the hawsers that were intended to prevent the ships from colliding with the pier on the Copenhagen side of the water when ships were launched.
